The International Companions for Learning (ICL) program at Santiao Elementary School aims to enhance students' spoken English skills while broadening their understanding of cultural differences. This initiative connects local fifth and sixth graders with international college students in Taiwan, fostering a rich exchange of language and culture.
Implementation Details:
Frequency: The program takes place weekly, every Friday from 08:00 to 08:40, before the first period.
Participants: Two classes, each with approximately 11-12 students, will engage in this interactive learning experience.
Activities: Students will participate in bi-directional exchanges covering topics such as national culture, local customs, traditional practices, and various aspects of daily life.
The ICL program also features weekly video chats, allowing students to communicate directly and share insights about their respective cultures. Each international student is paired with a local student, enhancing communication and translation. The program is connected with university courses and clubs, sometimes involving partner schools abroad.
By the end of the term, participants will have the opportunity to meet in person, reinforcing the importance of human connections and fostering a deeper understanding of diverse cultures. Through this program, Santiao Elementary School is committed to bridging educational and cultural gaps, enriching the learning experience for all students involved.
